What a week it’s been in the African nation’s cup! With every team having played twice we’ve had 45 goals and loads of excitement and drama.
Perhaps the biggest news is the departure of one of thepre-tournament favourites; Senegal. They were knocked after losing to Zambia inthe first game and losing a thriller against Equatorial Guinea. Speaking of the co-hosts just how well are they doing! Equatorial Guinea have qualified for thequarter-finals along with Gabon and you have to say they both deserve it.
The two West African giants; Ivory Coast and Ghana are virtually in the Quarter finals after both winning their first two games. Both have not looked overly impressive but have shown quality when needed. However Ghana’s group (D) is very tight following Guinea’s 6-1 victory over Botswana, which means all three teams mathematically have a chance of qualifying alongside Ghana.
Tunisia have qualified from Group C and will fight it out with Gabon for top spot in the group. Meanwhile Morocco have been dumped out after losing both their games, more recently an thrilling 3-2 defeat at the hands of Gabon which was arguably the game of the tournament so far.
Angola and Sudan are both in with a shout in Group B alongside Ivory Coast and Group A which has seen the biggest shop with the exit of Senegal will be decided today. Libya have an outside chance of qualifying for quarter
finals at the expense of Zambia and if they did what a great achievement that would be given all that’s gone on in the country.
No doubt there will be more excitement over the next seven days as all the groups are decided. Here’s to another week of great football!
