This month I thought I’d recommend something with a little bit of a different flavour but still speaks the words of Africa. Dance the guns to silence is anthology in the memory of the late Ken Saro-wiwa, a political activist killed in Nigeria under the dictatorship of Sani Abacha. The poems are evocative and challenging to the say the least. From ‘tears’ to the ‘The President is dead again’ every writer provides a poem that provokes thought, as the anthology leaves you not only asking questions but also wondering why, about so many things. It show cases some of the wold's most prominent writer with pieces from Helon Habila, Benjamin Zephaniah, Linton Kwesi Johnson and Lemn Sissay to name but a few. This anthology definitely leaves you being reflective, so enjoy it, don’t rush it.
Till next month
