Maybe one day Africa will be famous for producing high quality footwear. Although SAWA is a French company all the raw materials used originate from Cameroon, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco. Tyres amongst other things put together by African hands make the footwear completely worthy of every Made in Africa stamp on them.
What caught my eye first were the multicoloured stitching and rugged canvas on top of the thick sole on the Dr.BESS sneakers. These sneakers will dispel any myths about the quality of products coming out of Africa, they wouldn’t look out of place on any runway and the competition should take note because they’ve really nailed the relaxed casual look ideal for everyday wear.
Every business is trying to reinvent itself to stay ahead of the competition, so in that sense the creators of SAWA are leaders, because they’re not about Sustainability as some short term goal, this is more about building an industry developing quality footwear from Africa good enough for the rest of the world.
The silver and black sneakers with the distinctive rubber sole are very stylish, the more I look at them the more I can see them on me. So I’m ready to buy, you in?
