Twaaga by Cedric Ido
The film is set in 1980’s Burkina Faso as the revolution against Sankara is about to begin. It follows eight years old Manu - a lover of comics – and his brother’s tag along. Manu’s comic world and real world soon collide as he begins to realise there are real powers to rival those of his comic-book superheroes.
Born in France, of Burkina Faso descent, Ido is definitely a filmmaker to watch. His work is exciting, interesting, playful, charismatic and just great filmmaking with even better storytelling. His film ‘Twaaga’ will be showing at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles from 6th – 17th February so I strongly suggest you buy yourself a ticket – this is a half an hour worth paying for.
His first short Hasaki Ya Suda was also well acclaimed. I haven’t seen it as of yet but trust me I’m trying to.
