It seems quite natural that having published our anthology - Small Chops - that we should begin to share the words of others. It’s an exciting walk for us as we delve into the world that is African literature. Whether it’s a novel, anthology, a play or just simply important or inspiring words from the continent, each month we will choose a little piece of Africa to get lost in. Please feel free to post your comments on our chosen pieces as well as sending us any suggestions.
From time to time we will also throw some other world literature into the mix too but with everything we do there'll still be a little taste of Africa somewhere. So join us as we meander through the works of old greats (Chinua Achebe, Ngugi Wa Thiong’o, Taban Lo Liyong ), to new inspirations (Aminatta Forna, Helen Oyeyemi, Chimamamda Ngozi Adiche) through to the quiet creatives (Tolu Ogunlesi, Chiedu Ifeozo, Ishmael M. Akango).
Our first book will be Beast of No Nation written by Uzodinma Iweala. Soaked with positive reviews, it promises to be a thought provoking read for this month as we follow Agu a young West African boy as he is forced to become a child soldier. Lets see what we think. Will Iweala challenge our minds? Or take us to unknown territory? Who knows but we have a month to find out.
Till then.
